Grains, seeds and cereals

Wheat ears

Fertile France is nearly entirely self sufficent in grains (grains), seeds (graines) and cereals— céréale. As in English céréale is also the word for breakfast cereals and sometimes for boxes of mixed grains, such as céréales méditerranéennes (wheat, rye, barley, spelt mixes).

Some have the same name in English, such as quinoa (readily available) and millet (less readily).
