orties

nettles

When we had too many snails eating our lettuces they used to tell me at the garden centre that it’s always fun to eat your enemies. The same goes s for our fine crop of orties, or nettles. Wear gloves, pick them while they’re young, and put them in a potage with some potatoes and cream, and they taste just like spinach.

Useful expression

Faut pas pousser mémé dans les orties (Don’t push granny in the nettles) means don’t push too hard, don’t exaggerate.
