One of the world’s greatest producers, France has been fermenting grapes since the 6th century BC, when the Greeks colonists brought the first vines to Marseille. Today the country produces some seven billion bottles wine a year. Bordeaux is the biggest wine area in the world, and Burgundy, Côtes du Rhône, Languedoc, Alsace, Champagne are no slackers either, not to mention all the wines that get transformed into Cognac and Armagnac.
French wine needs an app of its own, to say the least. Until then, there’s a good introduction to French wine here and as well as a list of useful wine words.
