The EU’s top producer, France grows 38 million tonnes of wheat in a good year, mostly of the bread-making varieties, blé tendre (common wheat, or froment), as well as durum blé dur farine used in pasta.

The Grand Est, Hauts-de-France and Centre-Val de Loire are the main centres of production.
