myrtille

bilberry or European blueberry

Vacciniums myrtillus. Myrtilles are bilberries or blue whortleberries. They are a bit smaller and darker than their cousins, ‘true’ blueberries or bleuets; both kinds thrive in the Vosges.

France is the third largest producer worldwide. Picking them for personal use in the national or natural parks is regulated, year by year, depending on how many there are.
