bouillie

porridge or gruel

single serving 1/2 cup oats 1 cup water

Rare indeed is a native-born French person who starts the day off with a bowl of bouillie or porridge of any kind; in fact when the French talk about la bouillie they usually mean bouillie bordelaise—the blue lime and copper sulfite that wine growers and gardeners spray on their plants to prevent mildew and other fungal diseases (and is okay for organic farming).
