melas zomos

μέλας ζωμός

The 'black broth' of the ancient Spartans, made of boiled pig's feet, blood and vinegar, although the exact recipe, for better or worse, has been lost. It hasn't stopped curious gastronomes from trying to replicate it: the comment of one person who tasted it was: ‘Now I understand why the Spartans do not fear death.'
