lambrokouloúra

λαμπροκουλούρα

lambrokouloura

A sweet bread (the name literally means the ‘ring of light’) traditionally made on Holy Thursday in the Peloponnese, similar to tsouréki but less sweet. The ring shape symbolizes the cycle of life, and light is associated with Easter Day. Some are very ornate and decorated with sesame seeds, as well as the traditional dyed red egg.
