sarikópites

σαρικόπιτες

sarikopites

Sarikópites, deep fried pastries shaped in a spiral, are named after the saríki, the scarf traditionally worn by Cretan men around their head.

Cretan Greek man. Crete, Greece.

They are made with a flour and olive oil, flavoured with raki and a bit of lemon juice, stuffed with tyrozoúli or myzíthra or chopped nuts, rolled up, deep fried, then often covered with sesame seeds and drizzled with honey.
