Lepidopus caudatus, a common Mediterranean fish is known as spatola ('spatula' fish), pesce bandiera or pesce sciabola. Glittery and rather gruesome when viewed eye to eye, it's one of the cheaper fish, but tasty when stewed with onion, tomatoes, garlic, white wine and potatoes in Giovanni Ditta's recipe from Trapani.
