Similar to a big red mullet, this popular fish (Triglia lucerna) is also known as coccio in Campania, cocciu in Calabria, luzerna in the Veneto and Friuli, and cappone or capone in Lazio and Abruzzo. To add to the confusion, a gallinella can also be a moorhen.

Friuli: Anzolèto, Anzolèto grosso, Anzolitto

Liguria: Cheuffano, Cheusano, Cheussano, Fanale, Gallinetta, Lanterna, Pesce organo

Marche: Capomazzo, Mazzola, Testa grossa, Testolina dall'occhio

Puglia: Angiuletto, Anziletto, Cuòcceche, Còcceche, Angelette, Angiulino, Cuoccio, Testa, Rendenedda de mare

Sardinia: Baladora, Rundini di mari, Fagiani, Gallinedda
