baby fish

Novellame are baby fish, mainly anchovies and sardines, which are popular in coastal regions for their delicate taste—fried, steamed, or put in pasta sauces and pies.

Known as bianchetti or gianchetti in Liguria; neonata in Sicily; cicenielli in Campania; and schuma ti mari or pupiddi in Puglia.
