barattiere

unripe musk melons

Otherwise known as Cucumis melo. More or less the same as carosello, cianciuffo, pagnottella and cocomerazzo. They are grown south of Bari in Puglia, especially in and around Fasano, and eaten raw, usually in salads. Barattiere comes from the word ‘to trade’ and are also popular and grown in Tunisia.
