The alalunga ('long wing') has white meat instead of red like a tuna. Like tuna, there are a number of ways to prepare it, including the classic alaunga all'agro dolce, or cooked in a sweet and sour sauce of vinegar and onions. It's also preserved sott' olio in jars.
In July, Bagnara Calabra, a fishing port in Reggio Calabria province, holds a Sagra dell' Alalunga celebrating its favourite fish.
