Friulian French toast

Also known as sope di cjaval--bread soaked in egg, fried in olive oil and coated in sugar, and served in a syrup of wine, cloves, sugar, lemon peel and cinnamon. Kusic is similar, with fennel seeds.

Povesen or schnitte, another take on Friulian French toast, is flavoured with vanilla or lemon zest, and topped with cinnamon and sugar.
