titole

Easter bread in Trieste

titole

A sweet yeast bread plaited with a red hard boiled dyed egg on the end. Titole supposedly represent the nails used on the Cross while the egg symbolizes the blood-stained rocks of Calvary, but Lidia Bastianich prefers to call them pupi ('dolls').
