berriquocoli

biscuits stuffed with walnuts and candied ceder

A speciality of Siena, berriquocoli are the bigger, richer, spicier cousins of cavallucci, made with honey, cinnamon and coriander and canditi di cedro—candied citron.

Also spelled bericuocoli, biricuocoli or bellicuocoli, the biscuits are named after an old word for apricot, bericoccola, derived from the Arabic al barquq, because of their shape and size. Another name for them is cavallucci dei signoricavalucci fit for a lord.
