An invasive species in the Mediterranean, and a dangerous one with its poisonous spikes. However, environmentalists are encouraging a market for lionfish to help keep numbers down. Once the nasty spikes are removed and the fish is filleted, it has tender white tasty flesh.
Not to be confused with scorfano.
