airelle

lingonberry

Lingonberry Vaccinium vitis-idaea var. minus foliage and fruit. Denali Highway, Alaska.

Cousin of the cranberry, airelles (lingonberries) are sold in jars, imported from Scandinavia.

The French like them with game dishes and boudin. Until cranberries became available, expat Americans have used them to make their favourite Thanksgiving sauce.
