Griottines de Fougerolles

sour cherries in alcohol

Griottines de Fougerolles (cerises macérées dans de l'eau-de-vie)

The Distilleries Peureux made their famous griottines from little, perfectly round Oblachinska cherries from Serbia. Besides being easy to pit, they are the only cherries with enough flavor and firmness to survive the slow process of maceration in kirsch liqueur, alcohol and sugar.

They are popular in cocktails, with cheese, in Black Forest cake, etc. Peureux also make Griottini, an apéritif with griottines plus herbs, gentiane and cinchona, which won a gold medal in the French wine and spirits competition in 2021.
