Well at least some folks say ravioli was invented in Nice, which was part of Italy until 1860 (and the birthplace of Garibaldi), but filled pasta was around at least since the time of Dante so who knows?
But like gnocchi it is a very traditional family dish in Nice: raviolis à la niçoise are stuffed with finely minced chard and daube.
