dáktyla

δάχτυλα

'Finger bread': a soft bread easily divided into segments ('fingers') traditionally made with yellow flour that blends wheat flour, whole wheat and cornmeal and covered with sesame seeds. Daktyla is easily divided into segments and often baked a second time to make paximadi.

In Cyprus, daktyla can also mean 'ladies' fingers': long finger-like pastries filled with ground almonds or other nuts, fried, drenched in syrup and served hot.
