ániso

άνισο

anise seeds

Anise (pimpinella anisum) or anise seed (also spelled ανήθο). Mainly used for flavouring ouzo.

The plant originally came from Asia but was soon as much appreciated for its medicinal uses (stomach and respiratory ailments) as for its taste.

The name in Greek means 'not equal' because the plant resembles hemlock (κώνειο in modern Greek) in case you're a philosopher and anyone offers you some to drink!
