sciacchetra

wine made from raisins on the Cinque Terre

Sciacchetrà, an amber passito wine (14.5o) similar to vin santo, is a tasty dessert wine from the Cinque Terre, where the grapes grow on such steep, plummeting slopes that they are harvested by monorail. It's rare, sweet (but not cloying), and has a slight mineral back taste. Traditionally drunk with biscotti or pandolce, it's also good with strong cheeses and foie gras.
