Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa
Promoting young artists in Venice
Not long after the first Biennale, Felicita Bevilacqua, widow of General La Masa (who fought with Garibaldi) donated her palace, Cà Pesaro to the city to promote the city's artistic culture. It became the Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderno.
Her foundation has grown since into one of the most important art institutions in the Veneto region, especially for the promotion of young artists, organizing a number of exhibitions and events throughout the year, often in collaboration with the Arts and Design faculty of the IUAV (architecture university). These take place the Galleria di Piazza San Marco in the porticos of the Procuratie Nuove and in the Palazzetto Tito, near San Barnaba in Dorsoduro.
The foundation also has artist-in-residence studios in the Cloister of SS. Cosma e Damiano on the Giudecca and in the Palazzo Carminati in Santa Croce (both occasionally open by appointment).
